Tis the Season to be Shameless!

Ahhhhh!  The holiday season is finally upon us.  There is a crisp, cool breeze in the air.  There are red sale signs and price slashing happening at retail stores across the country.  Christmas trees and lights start popping up before you’ve had a chance to put away your Halloween stuff.  Turkeys, hams, sweet potatoes and antacids are cheaper and more plentiful than ever.  We, as a people, come together once again to suffer through 4-6 weeks of nonstop ugly sweaters.  Yet, we persevere, rise again and are able to make our New Year’s resolutions on January 1.   It is truly an amazing season!

For different people, the holiday season means different things.  Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza or Oatmeal Muffin Day, there is always meaning behind the festivities.  For those of us who are business owners or managers, it should be Shameless Self Promotion Season!  This is the time of year where we get holiday cards printed and mailed out to our clients.  We send out fruit cakes and gift cards.  We offer up extra discounts in hopes that their purchasing doesn’t decline during the month of December.  Guess what… Every vendor that your clients do business with is sending them the same lame items.

15 Minutes WILL NOT Save You 15% on Office Supplies!

Often times in the world of business to business selling, sales reps have a tendency to walk into your office or call you on the phone and attempt to begin a pitch about how much money they can save you on a particular product or service.  As a purchaser (whether you are the owner, manager, or purchasing agent) your responses are probably automated to a handful of vague statements such as; “I’m happy with my current vendor.” “I’m not interested.” And my personal favorite, “I don’t have time to look at new vendors right now.”  Occasionally I was caught off guard with this amazing and intriguing statement: “I can’t afford to buy everything from one person.  I have to shop around for the best deal, so don’t waste your time with me.”  WHAT?! Interestingly enough, I heard this from both large and small organization.

Top 5 Office Essentials to Keep at Your Desk in Case of Emergency

#5 - A Big Bag of Snacks

From time to time you may get bogged down with work and you have to skip lunch.  Occasionally, you may even be running late in the morning and can’t grab breakfast.  Keeping snacks in your desk drawer will come in handy for such a time as this.  However, the main reason to keep snacks in your desk drawer is more important than your appetite.  The main reason to keep snacks in your desk drawer is (drum roll please) to protect the feelings of your coworkers when you have a pot luck lunch!  There are subtle ways to spit out that big bite of green bean casserole.  There are subtle ways to trash a plate of extra dry turkey with humus gravy. (Who knew?)  There is, however, no subtle way to tell your coworker that their dish tastes like shoe leather dipped in fountain pen ink.  Save your coworkers that heartache and politely excuse yourself.  When you get back to your desk, you can indulge as much as you want.  We deliver same day if needed.  Order yourself some snacks right now!

You’ve probably heard it a million times; however, buying within your local community from a locally owned business has never been more critical or beneficial than it is right now.  We have been told over and over that small business is the true driver of our economy, yet we hear very little about small business or local economies in the news.  So how can this be true if no one is talking about it?  Simple… Jobs!  According to the Small Business Administration, small business makes up about 98% of all U.S. employers and account for about 49% of all private sector employment.
